Key points

  • SEO helps your pages appear in Google's free results, below the ads
  • Google shows the pages that answer a search best, from sites it can read and trust
  • It takes months to build, but the visits keep coming without paying per click

What SEO means

When someone types “aircond service Kuching” into Google, Google picks the pages it thinks answer that search best. SEO (search engine optimisation) is everything you do so that your page is one of them.

The results below the ads are called organic results. You don't pay Google for them, which is exactly why they are worth earning.

How Google decides who appears

Google weighs many signals, but for a local business they come down to three questions:

  • Relevance: does this page match what the person searched for?
  • Quality and trust: is it helpful, accurate and clearly from a real business?
  • Usability: can Google read the page, and does it work well on a phone?

The three parts of SEO

  • Content: pages that answer real customer questions, one topic per page
  • Technical SEO: speed, mobile layout, structured data and sitemaps, so Google can find and understand every page (technical SEO explained)
  • Local SEO: your Google Business Profile and consistent details, so you appear on Google Maps (local SEO guide)

SEO or Google Ads?

Ads put you at the top today and stop the day you stop paying. SEO takes longer to build, but a page that ranks keeps bringing visits for free. Many businesses use both: ads for quick results, SEO for lasting ones.

How to tell if SEO is working

Google Search Console, a free tool from Google, shows how often your site appears in search (impressions), how often people click, and for which searches. We connect it on launch day and report from it at day 30, 60 and 90.
